The Gospel

A Christian is someone who has responded in genuine faith to the Gospel which is the good news about what God has done to save us through His Son Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

The Gospel:

God

God created everything and is sovereign ruler over all things.  Therefore, we are accountable to Him.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  (Genesis 1:1)

16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  (Colossians 1:16-17)

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”  (Revelation 4:11)

Man

We all choose to disobey God.  The Bible calls this sin.  Sin separates us from God and deserves God’s punishment of death.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;…  (Isaiah 53:6)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  (Romans 3:23)

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Romans 6:23)

Christ

God sent Jesus, the perfect solution to our sin problem, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve.  It’s something we, as sinners, could never earn on our own.  Jesus alone saves us.  He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again.  Because Jesus gave His life for us, we can be made right before God and adopted into His family for eternity.  This is the best gift and the best news ever!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  (Romans 5:8)

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  (2 Corinthians 5:21)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.  (Ephesians 2:8-9)

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.  (1 Peter 3:18)

Response

Believe in your heart that Jesus alone saves you through what He’s already done on the cross.  Repent, turning from self and sin to Jesus.  Confess your faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

…Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”  (Mark 1:14-15)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  (John 14:6)

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.  (Acts 3:19)

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved… 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (Romans 10:9-10, 13)

Response to the Good News of Jesus is the only way to truly be saved and have a right standing before God and a restored relationship with Him.
